Open Volunteer Opportunities

Software Engineer

MMC is looking for volunteers who want to use their time and skills to help our organization run smoothly and efficiently. The MMC Tech team’s goal is to make the organizational tasks of members and staff as easy as possible. We have an expanding codebase in Typescript and Python on Github that interacts with technologies including Google Apps Script, Google App Engine, and more! The tools we have span many different technologies; you don’t need to be an expert in all of them, but if you want to expand your skills, we will help you learn!

Required skills

  • Ability to read and write programming languages and develop applications

Recommended skills

  • Knowledge of Typescript or Python

  • Familiarity with git

  • Familiarity with Google Apps Script

  • Familiarity with Google App Engine

  • Ability to interact with 3rd party (e.g. REST) interfaces

Bonus skills

  • Understanding of good software design practices

  • Good grasp of software testing methodology

  • Understanding of cybersecurity


Social Media Manager

MMC seeks 3-4 Social Media Managers, ideally one in each ensemble. These volunteers will publish social media content on behalf of each ensemble for recruitment, marketing, concert promotion and audience/community relations. They will coordinate with the Director of Marketing to unify the processes and messaging for each ensemble, where possible.

Required skills

  • Good editorial judgement and a keen understanding of Facebook and Instagram’s features

Bonus skills

  • Previous experience managing a professional social media channel

  • Knowledge of Facebook Business Manager


The Metropolitan Music Community is a New York State nonprofit supported by its members and the community at large. The MMC holds 501(c)(3) status, making it a tax-exempt organization. All contributions are tax deductible, and go to support each of MMC's ensembles: Brooklyn Wind Symphony, Grand Street Community Band and Kings County Concert Band.
