KCCB 2020-21 Season

In late 2020, the members of MMC came together to play Stillwater by Kelijah Dunton in this virtual band performance.

Kelijah is a graduate of the Grand Street Campus High School, the home of MMC, and he is a friend and member of MMC. Kelijah wrote Stillwater when he witnessed the natural wonder of a partially frozen pond in Minnesota, where he was awarded as a leading composer of color.

During May of 2021, MMC restarted after a 14 month pandemic pause. We came together to make music in three small ensembles, a Jazz Band, a Woodwind Ensemble and a Brass Choir.

Each ensemble met 4 times and prepared a 15 minute digital concert to celebrate a return to in person music making. Given reopening challenges, our organization grew in its artistry, resilience and teamwork.

Spring 2020 Virtual Ensemble

When our physical rehearsals came to an abrupt halt during the COVID-19 pandemic, the members of the Metropolitan Music Community created a virtual band to perform Michael Markowski’s “Brooklyn Air” under the direction of Jeff W. Ball. In this time of extreme unrest and uncertainty, we wanted to share something positive with our friends and supporters while we continue our work of building an inclusive musical community for all.
