GSCB Conductor Search
MMC is launching an official search for a conductor and assistant conductor for GSCB. The Grand Street Community Band is one of NYC’s premier community bands. They have performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and were most recently invited to perform at the Association of Concert Bands National Convention in 2018. GSCB is a non-auditioned wind ensemble made up of avocational musicians who gather once a week for rehearsals Mondays 7:00-9:00 pm usually starting in September/October and ending in May/June. GSCB typically performs 3-4 times per year.
Conductors and assistant conductors serve on a voluntary basis as leaders of the ensemble and as members of the MMC artistic team. Because of our collective nature, GSCB conductors have access to the entire MMC ensemble library and librarian, a yearly artistic budget to rent/purchase additional music, and personnel/production teams to assist with all logistical needs. Conductors must program all of the music for GSCB and are free to seek performance opportunities in line with our overall MMC mission.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who understand the MMC mission, can create the most artistically fulfilling experience for our members, and can collaborate with the artistic teams of our sister ensembles and the MMC board. All interested applicants should complete the online form here no later than April 17th. Selected applicants will be asked to take an interview with the MMC search panel. Those who are invited to the GSCB live audition should be available for a GSCB rehearsal on May 6th (7-9pm), dress rehearsal on May 13th (7-9pm), and the performance on May 18th (1-5pm). Rehearsals are located at: Corona Arts & Sciences Academy (CASA) 98-11 44th Ave, Corona, NY 11368, and the concert is at Grand Street Campus HS 850 Grand St. Brooklyn NY 11368.
All performances are open to the public – suggested donation $10
Location: 850 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY (Grand Street High School Campus Auditorium)
